Data practices

How Insightnix sources, prepares and maintains the data behind every dashboard, and how client data is handled within Data Services.

Part 1

The public platform

Insightnix publishes interactive dashboards built from publicly available datasets. This section describes how those datasets are selected, prepared and maintained.

Source selection

Every dataset on the platform is drawn from a recognised public or institutional provider. Sources include national statistical agencies, government departments, central banks, international organisations and established research programmes. Examples include the Office for National Statistics, GOV.UK, NHS England, the Bank of England, Eurostat, the World Bank and Our World in Data.

We do not use user-generated content, unverified aggregators or sources that cannot be independently checked. Each dashboard lists its sources, and each source links to the original provider so figures can be verified against the original publication.

Preparation and structuring

Raw public data is rarely ready for visualisation. Before a dashboard is published, each dataset goes through a consistent preparation process:

  • Column names, units, currencies and date formats are standardised.
  • Country and region names are aligned to consistent codes so series can be compared across datasets.
  • Time series are checked for gaps, breaks and revisions noted by the original provider.
  • Figures are not altered. Preparation is limited to structure and formatting; the underlying values remain as published by the source.

Where a source revises historical figures, we reprocess the affected series rather than mixing old and new vintages.

Licensing and attribution

We only use datasets whose licences permit reuse. Most UK government data is published under the Open Government Licence; international sources typically use Creative Commons or equivalent open licences. Where a licence requires attribution, the attribution appears in the dashboard's source list.

Datasets with non-commercial or otherwise restrictive licences are not used on the platform, even where they would be convenient. If a licence changes, the affected dashboard is reviewed and, if necessary, rebuilt from an alternative source or withdrawn.

Updates and corrections

Every dashboard carries a published date and a last-updated date. Datasets are refreshed when the original provider releases new figures; the cadence therefore follows the source, whether that is monthly, quarterly or annually.

If an error is identified in our preparation of a dataset, we correct it and update the dashboard. If you believe a figure is wrong, contact us with the dashboard name and the source you are comparing against, and we will investigate.

Accuracy and limitations

Dashboards present data as published by the original sources. We take care in preparation, but we do not independently audit the underlying collection methods of statistical agencies, and figures are subject to the definitions, methodologies and revision policies of each provider.

Dashboards are provided for general information. They are not financial, legal, medical or professional advice, and decisions should not be made on the basis of a dashboard without consulting the original source and, where appropriate, a qualified professional.

The public platform contains no personal data. Datasets are aggregate statistics; we do not publish information about identifiable individuals.

Part 2

Data Services and client data

Data Services is our managed offering, where we build and maintain dashboards from a client's own business or organisational data. Handling client data carries different responsibilities from handling public data, and this section sets out the principles we work to. The binding contractual detail is in the Data Services Terms.

Ownership and access

  • Client data remains the property of the client at all times. Engaging Insightnix transfers no ownership of data to us.
  • We access only the data needed for the agreed work. Access routes, whether file transfer, database credentials or API keys, are agreed in writing before work begins.
  • Credentials supplied to us are stored securely, used only for the agreed purpose, and can be revoked by the client at any time.

Storage, retention and deletion

  • Client data is stored only for as long as the engagement requires. Working copies are kept on access-controlled systems and are not placed on public infrastructure.
  • Dashboards are delivered on the client's chosen platform, such as Power BI, Tableau or Excel. Data held within those platforms is subject to the platform provider's own security and terms, under the client's account where applicable.
  • On termination of an engagement, or on written request, client data held by Insightnix is deleted within 30 days, except where a legal obligation requires retention.

Confidentiality

  • Client data is never published, shared with third parties, sold, or used for any purpose other than delivering the agreed services.
  • Client data is never used to build or enrich the public Insightnix platform, and is never used for another client's work.
  • Deliverables, dashboards and findings are treated as confidential to the client unless the client agrees otherwise in writing.

UK GDPR and data protection

Insightnix is operated by Isodev Limited, a company registered in England and Wales. Isodev Limited is registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) and complies with the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

  • Where client datasets contain personal data, Isodev Limited acts as a processor and the client remains the controller. We process such data only on the client's documented instructions.
  • Enquiry details submitted through this website, such as name, email and company information, are processed to respond to the enquiry and administer the service, as described in our Privacy Policy.
  • Individuals may exercise their rights under UK GDPR, including access, rectification and erasure, by contacting us using the details below.
